Tax returns can be time consuming and stressful. Gathering the necessary information is one thing, but then working out what to put in which field on the HMRC website is another. Their requirements change every year, and because you only do it once a year the whole experience is confusing and complicated.

The temptation can be to just fill it in and hope for the best. However, that can lead to errors and you may end up paying the wrong amount of tax. If this happens, it’s possible that you overpay and will be due a refund in the future. However, it’s also possible you have additional tax to pay and you then risk incurring a penalty from HMRC too.
